What you’ll need before starting 

Before creating an eBay listing, you’ll need an eBay account. Once you’re signed up, the platform restricts new accounts to a specific number of listings and sales per month. 

These limits aren’t set in stone. They’re unique to every account. eBay typically shows your limits after you make your first sale on your eBay account overview page.

How to list on eBay: Step by step

You can create your first eBay listing by following these steps to help you avoid common mistakes and present your product more professionally to potential buyers:

Step 1: Choose your item and start a listing 

Check eBay’s prohibited and restricted items page to confirm that the platform allows what you want to sell and avoid listing anything that could be removed or put your account at risk. Follow these pointers to create a strong listing:

  • Show flaws and details: Include close-ups of scratches, defects, or unique traits to reduce disputes and build buyer trust.
  • Add a video for complex items: If you’re selling a complex item like a TV or computer, use a short video to clearly demonstrate its function, movement, or real-world scale.
